On the opening day of the upcoming International tournament at the Sport Ireland Campus (23rd July), Ireland Men take on the Czech Republic at 18.00 and on the 25thJuly there is a huge opportunity to come and see both the men’s and women’s national teams play on home soil. The women’s team play at 14.45 v Chile, and the men play at 19.15 v Ukraine.
Hockey Ireland want to offer children aged between 8 and 14 the opportunity to play in a 3v3 match before/between the games! You can sign up a team of 3 (within 1 age category), or we can put your child into a team. You can sign up a many teams or individuals as you like.
The concept behind the 3 v 3 format is to give young players more opportunities to play and to play in a less structured, less pressurised environment than what might normally be the case in the league and cup season. Also with smaller pitches and it not being part of a wider competition young players are encouraged to express their skill more and be creative. Due to the small number required (3 players, no GK) there is a low barrier to entry with Hockey Ireland encouraging all schools and clubs especially the smaller ones to enter a team. Participating players will get more ball touches and more decision making opportunities than in the traditional 11 a side and 8 a side formats. Places are limited and we are encouraging interested teams to register as soon as possible.
